B&E Boys Ltd Hit The Ground Running

In January 2016, B&E Boys Ltd hit the ground running by completing a £4 million project to construct a Sports Arena, and achieving early handover.

The project was jointly funded by Leicester City Council, Leicester Riders Basketball Team, Leicester College and Sport England. The brief of this Design & Build project was to provide a seated arena for basketball, volleyball, badminton and a variety of other indoor sports, which would also be the new home of Leicester Riders Basketball Team.

The basketball arena itself is designed to accommodate up to 2,500 spectators for Leicester Riders home games.

Club Director Kevin Routledge, who has spearheaded the project had this to say “I think it’s a complete game changer for the Riders”

On completion of the project, Leicester Riders had their first home game at the arena; they were up against the Surrey Scorchers. The Riders won the game 77-60 to advance to the semi-finals of the BBL Trophy.

B&E Boys were invited to attend to game, here’s what our Property Director, Michael Boys, had to say “It was a thrilling occasion to see 2,500 people packed into the new Arena and see a very competitive and colourful, but very family friendly NBL Basketball game. There was a real buzz of excitement on the evening in this amazing venue, and I was extremely proud to see what the Boys Team, from Management staff to the Tradesmen, at B&E Boys had created for the people of Leicester. A massive amount of respect and credit to all involved!”

Tim will lead Regenerate’s board of directors, which makes decisions on the company’s direction and how it will work to help grow Lancashire’s economy. The company’s governance is made up of both public and private sector representatives, including elected members from Pennine Lancashire’s local authorities.

Tim’s experience includes four years on the board of directors for the Lancashire Economic Partnership. He also won the Lancastrian of the Year Award in 2010.

Tim succeeds previous chairman Dennis Mendoros, who is managing director of Kelbrook-based aerospace firm Euravia, and who has been chair since 2009. During Dennis’ time as chair, Regenerate successfully bid for £16.5m of the Regional Growth Fund to help Lancashire business access grants between £5,000 and £1m for growth projects.

They also began delivering programmes to help businesses start and grow as part of Boost Business Lancashire, the £7.2m Lancashire Growth Hub.

Tim said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help influence opportunities for Lancashire businesses, which will help them grow and create jobs for local people. All members of the board have a real drive to make a difference to the business landscape. The partnership between the councils and the private sector helps ensure challenges are overcome so that businesses can access support faster.”

Founded in 1990 by managing director, Martyn Wells, Lancashire Brick & Tile is based on Manchester Road in Bolton, and now employs 12 staff.

The business specialises in supplying products including bricks, natural stone, architectural masonry and terracotta cladding to customers in the region plus further afield including a recent high profile project in Abu Dhabi, during the construction of the landmark Al Bandar complex on Al Raha Beach.

Previous projects have included the supply of 7,500 sq m of terracotta cladding for 11 tower blocks as part of a Greater Manchester regeneration project; work on Nelson Town Hall in East Lancashire and Carlisle Police headquarters; and the supply of more than half a million bricks for a University of Liverpool campus.

Lancashire Brick & Tile is the UK distributor for Terreal, a large European manufacturer of terracotta, and has recently forged a partnership with a German brick manufacturer.

The company primarily markets its products and advises on specifications to architects, developers and housing associations. It has signed up Pierce as its accountants and business advisors to supply a range of services including audit, accounts and personal tax advice.

Mark Maden-Wilkinson, a director at Pierce, said: “Lancashire Brick & Tile is a business which has carved out a real niche for itself in the highly competitive construction sector.

“By continuing to provide a quality service the business has grown its reputation in a way that means it has been able to win work overseas as well as closer to home.”

Martyn Wells of Lancashire Brick & Tile said: “As we enter the latest stage of the company’s development it was important to ensure our business advisors had the necessary experience and expertise.

“We were impressed with Pierce’s background, and look forward to a successful relationship as we continue to balance quality with value for our customers.”
