Andrew Stephenson

Senior VAT and Investigations Manager

I left the Inland Revenue in 1990 after 13 years to make the move into private practice and have never looked back. My role has developed at Pierce to include VAT planning and investigation work and the more complex direct tax enquiry work. No two days are alike.

Qualifications and professional achievements:

BA in Business Studies. Fellow of the Federation of Tax Advisors. Member of the VAT Practitioners Group.

How did you end up working for an accountancy practice?

A combination of factors: I got fed up with shuffling paper in the Inland Revenue and having passed my degree at a time when there was a moratorium on promotions I took my then boss’s advice and decided to leave; fortunately I had contacts in a local firm of accountants who were recruiting at the same time.

Unusual Facts:

I joined my local church choir at age eight and am still singing (albeit much lower down the scale now).
