Tom Wilkinson – Associate Director – Truly a Rising Star

We are delighted to announce the promotion of Tom Wilkinson to Associate Director from 1st November.

Tom joined Pierce as a trainee in 2006 becoming a fully qualified chartered accountant in 2011 at the age of just 23.

Tom has twice been nominated for the prestigious North West Society of Chartered Accountants Accountancy Rising Star Award.

Having worked principally with Mark Maden-Wilkinson managing a number of clients as well as having a sub-portfolio of his own, Tom has now developed his role adding his specialist knowledge of Research and Development tax claims.

Tom works in all areas of general practice from compliance work such as audit and accounts to more ad hoc project work such as business plans, re-organisations and MBO’s.

Tom truly is one of our ‘Rising Stars’, having reached Associate Directorship at the age of 27.

There are two ways to apply:

As part of normal selection process we may approach entrepreneurs, or they may apply direct. In each case all applications are processed in the same way. To be considered all candidates need to submit an application form and these are then subject to the same casting criteria. Final selection for participation in the programme will be decided on a number of factors including the strength of idea, a robust business plan and projected turnover.

Regenerate Pennine Lancashire has appointed Tim Webber, managing director of Barnfield Construction, as its chairman.

Tim will lead Regenerate’s board of directors, which makes decisions on the company’s direction and how it will work to help grow Lancashire’s economy. The company’s governance is made up of both public and private sector representatives, including elected members from Pennine Lancashire’s local authorities.

Tim’s experience includes four years on the board of directors for the Lancashire Economic Partnership. He also won the Lancastrian of the Year Award in 2010.

Tim succeeds previous chairman Dennis Mendoros, who is managing director of Kelbrook-based aerospace firm Euravia, and who has been chair since 2009. During Dennis’ time as chair, Regenerate successfully bid for £16.5m of the Regional Growth Fund to help Lancashire business access grants between £5,000 and £1m for growth projects.

They also began delivering programmes to help businesses start and grow as part of Boost Business Lancashire, the £7.2m Lancashire Growth Hub.

Tim said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help influence opportunities for Lancashire businesses, which will help them grow and create jobs for local people. All members of the board have a real drive to make a difference to the business landscape. The partnership between the councils and the private sector helps ensure challenges are overcome so that businesses can access support faster.”


Press Release: Ben Smith promotion to Associate Director

The directors are delighted to announce that with effect from 1 October 2013 Ben Smith will be promoted to Associate Director of Pierce C A Ltd.

Ben joined Pierce in July 2005 and trained with the firm before qualifying in July 2008.  A short spell working in industry during 2010 then followed before he re-joined the firm in February 2011.  Since returning Ben has managed a number of client relationships alongside our Chairman, Graham Boyes and has developed a niche expertise in Research & Development and Patent Box tax planning opportunities.

Ben already runs a successful networking breakfast group to build relationships and over the coming months, following his promotion, Ben will develop his own client portfolio and take responsibility for a number of existing client relationships that he is already supporting.

Additionally Ben will continue to develop his role within the firm and continue to work closely with Graham Boyes who in time will hand over a number of relationships to continue the firm’s succession.
