As a company director my role is to ensure the office runs as efficiently as possible, to ensure clients are serviced and looked after as professionally as possible, and to continue to develop the business for the benefit of all.
I qualified with KPMG as a chartered accountant in 1988, and in 1991 specialised in taxation working in a large independent practice in Manchester City centre. In 1994 I was admitted to the Chartered Institute of Taxation, as a chartered tax advisor. In 1995 I took the decision to set up my own chartered accountancy practice based in Tottington, Bury. After 30 years I made the decision to join the Pierce group, to ensure the continued growth and development of the practice for the next generation of staff and clients alike.
Football is my main passion, having kicked a football for as long as I can remember. At age 16 I was selected to play for Bolton Boys, my home town team. At age 62 I still play 7 a side on a weekly basis, but the recovery time takes a whole lot longer than it used to. As well as football, I try to play squash once a week, go for long walks in the sunshine, and occasionally hit the home gym.
The unusual fact about me is that there really is nothing unusual about me. I’m just a normal bloke who likes football, a few beers, a nice holiday, and catching up with clients and friends. Sorry to disappoint!
To spend 8 weeks in the summer of 2030 on the Iberian Peninsula fully experiencing the world cup. To watch as many football matches as possible, visit the different stadia, and soak up the atmosphere of the greatest sporting event on the planet. All with a glass of Sangria, or bottle of San Miguel, in hand.
The Algarve in Portugal, where we regularly visit. The weather is generally good. The Portuguese people are the nicest I’ve ever come across. The food is fresh and tasty. The lifestyle is slow and relaxed. And it’s all less than 3 hours on a plane.
I’m showing my age, but it has to be Grease. As a 14 year old boy, I definitely got chills. And they were definitely multiplyin. If you know, you know!
Two cups of coffee, and a good chat with the wife, Deb, for that first hour of the day. Then I’m ready for whatever the day ahead throws my way.
